Wine, beer and gastronomy event on February 4

In conjunction with the Galt City Winter Bird Festival, the Galt District Chamber of Commerce invites adults to enjoy an evening of wine, beer and tasty bites at the fourth annual Wine, Beer event. & Food on Friday, February 4 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Littleton Community Center, 410 Civic Drive. Tickets are $40 per person before Jan. 21 or $50 after. VIP tables, with the company logo, for eight guests are available for $500 and include a flight of beer, wine and dessert for each guest, as well as a personal table runner. Winter Bird Festival February 5

The 15th Annual Galt Winter Bird Festival is scheduled for Saturday, February 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the Tundra Swan as the featured bird.

This bird festival is free and offers activities for children all day long; as well as educational vendors, a live wildlife display, photography exhibit and youth art competition.

New this year will be an exhibition of bird photographs and virtual experiences with artist John Muir Laws.

Tours include a ‘Behind Locked Doors’ visit to the Cosumnes River Reserve; plus Tall Forest with Dr. John Trochet, Delta Birding with Chris Conard, Staten Island Sunset with Emily Wells, Cal Waste Systems Materials Tour; Guided photographic walk in the Cosumnes River Reserve, and walk on tracks and scats in the Cosumnes River Reserve.

Presentations will be made by Conservation Ambassador Gabriel Kerschner, Leesa Klotz of Cal-Waste, Kelli Moulden with Hawks, Honkers and Hoots, Corky Quirk with Going Batty, and keynote speaker John Ehrenfeld.

Crab food from the firefighters foundation on February 5

The Cosumnes Firefighters Community Support Foundation will host a crab meal on February 5 at the Elk Grove SES Hall. The fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. with an unhosted bar; dinner will follow at 7 p.m.

The SES Hall is located at 10427 East Stockton Blvd. at Elk Grove. Tickets are $60 per person; availability is reduced to allow for social distancing.

Crab food from the Fatima society February 5

The Society of Our Lady of Fatima in Thornton holds its annual crab dinner on February 5. The event will take place at the Stockton Ballroom, with unhosted cocktail receptions from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and dinner from 7:30 p.m. The dancing begins at 9 p.m., with music provided by the Jay Rolerz Band. Take-out meals are available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on pre-order only.

Herald Community Club Chile Cook-off February 12

The Herald Community Club will hold its Chili Cook-off and Membership Drive on February 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Herald Fire Protection District. The non-profit community club supports the youth and community of Herald and surrounding areas. The contest will include homemade chili and a raffle. Membership registrations will also be available. Annual membership is $5 and new members receive tickets for free tastings and drinks.

GTC Gatsby Dance February 12

The Galt Teen Center will host a “Great Gatsby” themed dance on February 12 at Brewsters Bar & Grill. Roaring Twenties costumes are encouraged at the center’s first fundraising dinner dance, which will include a raffle and silent auction, a hostless bar and music provided by DJ Brian King. Must be 21 or older to attend.

Galt Grub Grab food distribution

Galt Joint Union Elementary School District Galt Grub Grab food distributions continue through March at Greer and Valley Oaks elementary schools. Shelf-stable food boxes are donated by the Sacramento Food Bank and are free to Galt families. Distributions take place at the time of termination.

The Greer distribution takes place on Tuesdays, February 15 and 22 and March 8, 22 and 29. Greer is located at 248 West A Street. The Valley Oaks distribution takes place on Thursdays, February 3, 17, and 24 and March 10, 24, and 31. Valley Oaks is located at 21 C Street.
