If you’ve recognized the incredible clifftop dream house in Wales where Louise Minchin, Naughty Boy, Danny Miller and Snoochie Shy met in the first episode of ITV I’m A Celebrity … Get me out of here! it’s because she’s already a celebrity in her own right.

The whitewashed, glass-fronted house was featured in Channel 4’s popular Grand Designs dream properties program in 2014 – when it was revealed that it would eventually end up at the bottom of the cliff due to erosion.

In addition to being a television star, the house has won an award from the Royal Society of Architects in Wales (RSAW) and is on the long list for RIBA Grand Designs: House of the Year 2015.

The house that runs along the coastline of Gwynedd is called Cefn Castell and offers the most incredible views that wowed viewers as four of the contestants met at the property before starting their adventure at nearby Gwrych Castle.

Cefn Castell was a labor of love for the owners, Rob and Kay Hodgson, with drama far surpassing anything celebrities will experience during the reality series.

Looking at the house’s position by the sea, you might think that the property would now be at the bottom of the adjacent bluff, such was the drama created around the stability of the surrounding geology when the property was featured on Grand Designs.

Four of the I’m a Celebrity 2021 contestants raise a drink inside the house

Rob told WalesOnline in 2019: “I understand the emphasis on the cliff, that was one aspect of the project and of course the production company had to bring that aspect to the forefront of the story.

“Passers-by on the coastal path still want to chat and most ask about the cliff problem, but it hasn’t budged. The struts have been in place for years and we haven’t lost more than 10cm of this. “

Award winning house

Rob says a number of experts have predicted the house will last around 140 years, giving Rob enough time to continue relaxing in his favorite spot, the garden patio overlooking the sea.

Since appearing on Grand Designs, the couple have enjoyed living in an ultra-contemporary glass and whitewashed house.

Rob says, “Over time you don’t really appreciate it as much as when you first started living here and I really should.

“Sometimes I just stop what I’m doing and I’m struck by the sight, but day by day you start to get used to it. I know I’m so lucky to live in such a beautiful place.”

Keep the stone wall as important

Entrance designed to seduce you … and it is

But this site was not the couple’s first choice for their new home in Wales. Hailing from the Warrington area, Rob and Kay were struck by the beauty of the Llyn Peninsula and knew this iconic Welsh location should be their new home.

For almost a year, the couple tried to buy Wern Manor to set up a sculpture park in the garden, but at the last minute in 2008 when the real estate crash struck, a crucial part of funding their bank was withdrawn.

We have launched a new real estate group on Facebook.

Whether you enjoy strolling through beautiful properties or always keeping an eye out for your latest project, this group will bring you the best of Welsh homes, properties, renovations and more.

Join our new group for all the latest.

Rob recalls, “We always wanted to do something on the peninsula and my wife saw a building plot for sale, so spur of the moment on a beautiful summer day in June we saw the site and fell in love with the beautiful location. “

And that’s how their sometimes stressful Grand Designs journey began.

Rob says he would recommend other potential Grand Designs contributors to appear on the show, although he believes there are downsides as well as benefits.

The interior view crosses the house from side to side

He says, “It adds pressure at a time when you have a lot going on, but the production team was very sweet and supportive.

“I would say go out there with your eyes wide open and remember that the team is building a watchable show and they want a story so you have to be sure that whatever comes out of it, that like it or not, it will be part of the story.

“There is no editorial control and that’s good because it’s their job, it’s not a review of your build, it’s just the story.”

Mix of old and new materials, stone and glass with whitewashed walls

The structure of the house beautifully frames the special sea views

Since appearing on the show in 2011, Rob has started his own business called Inspire Presenting and Writing, which trains people from various organizations to harness the power of speech during live presentations.

But since the show, he has also had a stubborn desire to plunge the couple back into real estate development.

He says, “It’s kind of like having a baby, for the first six months you say you’re never gonna do that again, then the thought creeps in and keeps growing, so maybe he I have one more left. “

There are no regrets about appearing on the show and how much the couple’s life has changed since living in Cefn Castell.

The house is unique in many ways but its birth was stressful

Rob comments: “We knew we were taking a risk for many reasons, including coming up with a design we couldn’t afford.

“It was a very difficult site and a very difficult project, but architect John Boardman and Ian Hunt and his construction team at Innerworld created a house that turned out fantastically well built without any problems.

“So all I can say is sometimes you have to take that risk, create something a little bit special that we derive so much from now; it was worth the years of trauma to get here.”

This is the second time that I’m A Celebrity has been held in Wales instead of Australia due to “continuing uncertainty” around Covid-19 and international travel and a “very successful race “in 2020, which saw Giovanna Fletcher crowned queen of the castle. The letterbox just off the main street tells the story of the contrasting reactions that the arrival of the I’m a Celebrity… Jamboree provokes in the market town of Abergele, North Wales.

The Rhyl Toppers, a group of yarn bombers (street performers using colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarns rather than paint), lovingly crafted a woolly take on the show’s hosts, Ant and Dec, in as knights in shining armor to crown the mailbox.

But, a little less artfully, someone stuck a creaky, swearing note on the box suggesting the ITV show is “total shit” and urging McPartlin and Donnelly to “come home.”

“There’s always a review or two,” said Tracey Brennan, who runs a gift shop and a fruit and veg shop in town as she removed the offensive sign. “But the vast majority of people love the show. and what he does for the city.

“It has been great for Abergele – I think the number of visitors has increased by 50% in the summer. It has been good for the mental health of people at a time when we need it and it even means housing prices have gone up. It put us on the map.

The reality show, in which celebrities take on grueling challenges and are tormented by close encounters with creepy crawlers, arrived in the city last year when Covid took its usual backdrop, the Australian jungle, out of town. limits. In an era of lockdown and firewalls, fans experienced the trials and tribulations that celebrities endured in and around the cold and humid environment of Gwrych Castle.

But animal rights activists were also concerned that living creatures could be used as entertainment and police have investigated allegations that non-native insects such as cockroaches may have been accidentally released into the Wales wilderness.

There was also a human tragedy when a 58-year-old woman, Sharn Hughes, died after being hit by a car after stopping to take a photo of the illuminated castle.

The show will be back on TV Sunday night, and a walk around town seems to confirm Brennan’s view that most people are still on board. Children in local schools have created “insect garlands” that are draped over many buildings. Stores and other businesses vied for the best showcase.

“I think it brought energy to the city,” said artist Pam Peters, who created a splendid handcrafted fused glass rendering of Gwrych Castle for her showcase.

An old bank has been turned into an I’m a Celebrity gift shop… selling souvenirs, tea towels and fridge magnets to handmade soaps. People come to pick up bundles of dried insects such as honey roasted crickets, to piece together their own “bush tucker trials” as they watch the show. The town’s Pen-y-Bont Inn fills up with mealworms, grasshoppers and crickets to crush and add to I’m a Celebrity… cocktails.

TV presenter and naturalist Iolo Williams will watch the show not for fun but to keep an eye on the animals. It is fortunate that the show has raised the profile of North Wales. “But I will be appalled if they continue to use live animals for entertainment,” he said. “My main concern, again, is the use of non-native and potentially harmful species such as cockroaches and locusts. If they were to gain a foothold in such an ecologically sensitive area, the result could be disastrous. “

The arrival of the reality show has caused mixed reactions in the market town of North Wales. Photograph: Christopher Thomond / The Guardian

The series refuses to give details on the origin of its creatures. A spokesperson said: “The team have many years of experience producing the show and have rigorous protocols in place to ensure the animals are handled safely before, during and after filming. , in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. Well-being and safety are always our top priority.

Sian Williams, chief of operations in North West Wales for Natural Resources Wales, said he had discussed non-native species and biosecurity issues with ITV and the production company to protect the local environment.

She said: “Any individual or organization must obtain a license from NRW under the Wildlife and Campaign Act or the Invasive Alien Species Ordinance before transporting, keeping or releasing any relevant non-native species. .

“No license applications have been received from the production company for non-natives in connection with their production of I Am a Celebrity. “

If the production company does not use species covered by the legislation or if it puts in place measures to ensure that non-native species used in production are not released or allowed to escape, it may not be required to obtain a license from NRW.

The return of the show also highlights the tensions between the inhabitants and the castle over access to the hiking trails in the park. Some residents accuse the castle of blocking the paths they have used for decades to exercise and walk dogs.

County Councilor Andrew Woods said he thinks most locals embrace I’m a Celebrity… and that had boosted the economy, but he was working hard to keep the lanes open. “There is bitterness about it,” he said.

The castle, which is using I’m a Celebrity… to kick-start an ambitious restoration project, insists it is within its rights and maintains that the spectacle is good for the city.

Mark Baker, chairman of the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust, said: “Everywhere you turn there are pictures of Ant and Dec. It’s a festival atmosphere.

Avowed superfan Sylvia Jones, partner of a North Wales construction company, agrees. She remembers traveling to the castle as a schoolgirl to attend games.

“It’s great to see the castle being used again for something as exciting as this,” she said. “I love it.”

Social media is full of love and praise for the Pakistan cricket team despite the semi-final loss to Australia in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Many people on social media praise the spectacular performance of the team throughout the tournament. Our celebrities are also proud of men and ask them to hold their heads up and come home as heroes.

Australia’s Matthew Wade dashed Pakistan’s hopes of qualifying for the T20 World Cup final, beating Shaheen Afridi’s three consecutive sixes in the penultimate and leading his side to a five-wicket victory in Dubai on Thursday . While half-centuries of Mohammad Rizwan (67) and Fakhar Zaman (55 not eliminated) helped Pakistan achieve a formidable 176-4 in the opening innings, Wade’s powerful shot helped Australia to climb to 177-5 with more to spare. Pakistan had their chance, but Hasan Ali dropped a regulation hold by left-hander Wade in the middle of the wicket just before Afridi was hit for three sixes.

Celebrities such as Fakhr-e-Alam, Asim Azhar and Ali Zafar posted on social media to congratulate the team despite the loss.

Actor Mehwish Hayat posted a video from Dubai Stadium saying loudly that winning or losing, the men in green are loved no matter what.

Writer Fatima Bhutto also praised the team.

And actors Osman Khalid Butt, Fahad Mustafa and Armeena Khan too.

Former cricketer Shahid Afridi praised the “big fight” waged by the men.

Actor Adnan Malik praised the team’s performance as well as cricket Shoaib Mailk’s camaraderie towards Hassan Ali.

Actor Ushna Shah reminded everyone that Hassan Ali, like all the other players, has done his best and deserves everyone’s kindness.

For singer Natasha Noorani, he is “still a king”.

The T20 World Cup was quite a journey for Pakistan. Whether stepping in as an underdog or leaving the tournament as one of the best teams in the game, the pioneering 11-a-side game has definitely given the nation something to be proud of. Well done!

OKLAHOMA CITY – There was no famous person around John Marion Grant in the hours leading up to his execution last month. Few Americans would likely have known his name without the fact that he was the first inmate to be executed in Oklahoma in nearly seven years.

Meanwhile, an organized PR team, a prime-time documentary and a host of celebrities including reality star Kim Kardashian, NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield and NBA star Russell Westbrook, have arguably made Julius Jones – the next inmate on the verge of death – a household name.

An online campaign calling on the state to suspend Jones’ execution on Nov. 18 had garnered more than 6.4 million signatures.

A separate high-level public relations campaign is also being carried out on behalf of death row inmate Richard Glossip. Sister Helen Prejean, one of the country’s most prominent nuns and author of the book “Dead Man Walking”, is her lawyer and spiritual advisor. She only takes on a handful of cases, but became convinced of her innocence after he wrote to her. Dr. Phil McGraw also recently presented the case of Glossip.

By comparison, the planned execution of Bigler Stouffer II, slated for December 9, elicited little public outrage. Only 4,119 people have signed an online petition trying to stop his execution despite claims by a quieter group of supporters that there is evidence of Stouffer’s innocence in the shooting death of a professor from popular school decades ago.

“I think just as the system is arbitrary in determining who goes on death row in the first place, it is somewhat arbitrary in determining which cases attract attention,” said Robert Dunham, executive director of the Center for Human Rights. information on the death penalty. “They sure don’t get the attention until someone has a good lawyer and something is immediately obvious to be very wrong.”

Dunham said that when he practiced law he represented innocent people who did not have the same level of attention as other inmates. He represented Harold Wilson, who was convicted and sentenced to death for a triple murder in a crack house in Pennsylvania. Wilson was then cleared.

He said celebrities have championed the causes of Glossip and Jones because they are “so exceptional” and there is strong evidence of innocence. He also said the issue of celebrity involvement is not unique to Oklahoma. Celebrities have also weighed in on death penalty cases in other states.

“Certainly, when these things get so high profile, there has to be a central core of truth that attracts so many people,” Dunham said. “And then there has to be some part of this case that is sensational in one way or another. I don’t think you can say that these cases don’t deserve a big following. I think you can tell. that there are many other cases which also deserve many followers, but never get them. “

Oklahoma Attorney General John O’Connor said he didn’t think celebrity support or access to a good public relations team should influence the outcome of the court process.

“The fact that one inmate has one PR device and another doesn’t affect my office at all,” he said. “It shouldn’t either… Every case, if it is to get to this point in terms of capital punishment, has been examined very thoroughly by the criminal appeals court. By the time he arrives at our office, we are convinced that the inmate is guilty of the charge and that it was heinous. “

A total of 45 people are on Oklahoma death row and 30 have exhausted all remedies, O’Connor said.

Griffin Hardy, a spokesperson for Prejean, said no case was more important than another.

“It’s just that there is sometimes a confluence of factors which, when it all comes together, this is the type of case that bursts into public consciousness,” he said.

Hardy also said there may be common threads and societal concerns that draw broader coalitions of people to inmate causes, such as evidence that racism played a role in the outcome or evidence of innocence. .

Glossip was twice convicted in the 1997 for-hire murder of Oklahoma City motel owner Barry Van Treese. Convicted hitman Justin Sneed has been sentenced to life without parole. Glossip maintains his innocence and says that Sneed acted alone and then pointed the finger at him to avoid the death penalty.

“The feeling that I have worked directly on a lot of these cases is that a lot of times, high-level people are really involved to get the public’s attention and support,” Hardy said. “But public pressure doesn’t really win the case. At the end of the day, these are always legal proceedings, legal questions. “

Hardy said that while public pressure can play a role in determining the outcome, no court, governor or pardon and parole board is going to commute a sentence just because a million people have called.

“They have to have a real and legally justified reason for doing it,” Hardy said. “And so attention helps, but what’s really key to all of this is having a good legal team who can investigate the facts, who can make the arguments, who can give decision-makers the reasons. that they need to make the right decision. “

In the case of Julius Jones, supporters say hundreds of thousands of people convinced of his real innocence have urged state leaders to commute his sentence, grant clemency or suspend his execution.

Jones was convicted of first degree murder in the 1999 carjacking death of 45-year-old insurance executive Paul Howell. Howell was robbed and shot in the head in the driveway of his parents’ house in Edmond. Authorities said they later found the murder weapon wrapped in a red bandana in the attic above the ceiling of Jones’ closet. Authorities said the killer was wearing a red bandana.

Jones has maintained his innocence.

Kelli Masters, who describes herself as a lawyer, said she was not aware of Jones’ case until someone involved in her public relations team contacted her 18 months ago and asked her write a letter to Governor Kevin Stitt on behalf of Jones. .

Masters, of Oklahoma City, who is a sports agent, had never argued for an inmate and declined to speak until she read the transcripts, appeals and reviewed the evidence. She also felt compelled to meet Jones twice on death row.

“I knew deep down that if I knew I was really going to go out and fight for him, I had to talk to him face to face and make my own determination that made me happy,” Masters said.

She said she was struck by Jones’ frankness that bad decisions as a teenager put him in a position where he could be convicted of murder. She also said he didn’t know he had become a household name.

Masters, who said she was not an activist against the death penalty, said Jones’ cause has enjoyed wide support from the Christian community, the conservative community and the Oklahoman who believe that it is “very, very convincing”.

“I don’t know all the celebrity mentions and attention and stuff,” she said. “I guess in a way I’m grateful because otherwise I might not have heard of it.”

It’s been almost two years since Gucci hosted an in-person show and on Tuesday, November 2, the Italian fashion house launched its Spring 2022 collection with the Hollywood-dedicated and Hollywood-inspired Gucci Love Parade.

After deciding to cut his original fashion schedule to just two shows a year in 2020, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele experimented with the concept of presenting a whole new collection in new ways. Over the past few seasons, he’s hosted a multi-day film and fashion festival called Guccifest, launched a collection with a 12-hour livestream that captured the shoot of his campaign, and hacked Balenciaga’s creations. Michele had planned to show in the United States in early 2020, scheduled for this May in San Francisco, but that was ultimately canceled. Over a year later, Michele and his team finally landed on the West Coast, making his long-awaited return to the track.

Gucci Love Parade, in all its glamorous Hollywood glory, seemed to have made up for lost time and so much more. Ahead, we’re breaking down the best and most memorable moments from Gucci’s Spring 2022 runway show, from celebrity cameos on the runway to the variety of references in every look. Read on to find out more.

Gucci Love Parade: the parade took place on Hollywood Boulevard

Gucci closed an entire block of Hollywood Boulevard to showcase its latest collection. The exact location had a lot of ties and references to the city’s long history in cinema, from the Walk of Fame hotspot as a runway for models to the famous Disney-owned El Capitan theater as the backdrop for the show. “Hollywood is, after all, a Greek temple populated by pagan deities,” Michele wrote in the show’s notes for Gucci Love Parade. “Here, actors and actresses are recognized as heroes of the myth; hybrid creatures with the power to hold both divine transcendence and mortal existence, both imaginary and real.

Gucci Love Parade: Model Cast Included Our Favorite Celebrities

The show’s ultimate surprise was an appearance by not one, but nearly a dozen celebrities who shaped the Spring 2022 collection. St. Vincent was the first celebrity to land the catwalk that night, while Phoebe Bridgers made her runway debut (with boyfriend Paul Mescal sitting on the sidelines to attend the moment), with Macaulay Culkin, Jodie Turner-Smith, Miranda July, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jared Leto, expected to play in the next movie Gucci House. Broadway artist Jeremy Pope, musical artists Steve Lacy and Hayden Pedigo, activist Janaya Khan and Grace Johnson (sister of Dakota Johnson) also paraded for the Italian fashion house.

Gucci Love Parade: the front row was just as filled with famous faces

Of course, the show’s front row was also filled with celebrity names, including famous brand friends Billie Eilish, Dakota Johnson, and Miley Cyrus. Italian rock band and Eurovision Song Contest 2021 winners Måneskin also landed an invitation to the show, in addition to Lizzo, Tracee Ellis Ross, Serena Williams, Natasha Lyonne, and more. Gwyneth Paltrow arrived in a red velvet suit that fans may recognize as the Tom Ford look for Gucci she wore at the 1996 MTV VMAs. (However, her look was an updated version of Gucci’s 100th anniversary collection. Sadly, longtime Gucci muse Harry Styles, who is currently on tour, couldn’t make a pit stop to support his pal Michele, but the singer’s girlfriend, Olivia Wilde, did. appearance. instead of.

Gucci Love Parade: Alessandro Michele paid tribute to his love for costume design

Michele has been fascinated by Hollywood since he was a child. Her mother worked in the film industry and often told her stories about Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Veronica Lake, and other screen sirens from the past. This interest stuck with him while he was studying costume design and throughout his maximalism and vintage tenure at Gucci.

Today, her latest collection focuses solely on the aesthetics of Hollywood’s golden age, with dreamy evening dresses and 70s-inspired costumes that pay homage to old movies and costume designers. that were behind them, as well as fishnet tights, headdresses (a tiara!), loofa-style stoles and faux fur coats to finish off each look.

Gucci Love Parade: Iconic LA Style and Western Clothing Also Influenced Designs

“It was an amazing place where fashion had a special space,” Michele told a post-show press group about the style of LA, a city he has visited more frequently over the past seven years. “It was fashion like a need. There was no fashion as an intention and it was fascinating. The aesthetic, known these days to include mostly sportswear and lots of designer logos – a pair of leggings is okay for Pilates classes, a quick trip to Erewhon, and dining on a hotel rooftop – infiltrated Michele’s designs, including athletic sets and matching bike shorts.

The American western was also a source of inspiration, especially the cowboy hat, which dominated the majority of looks on the runway. “I used [the cowboy hat] like an object of seduction, an object of liberation, ”explained Michele, whose point of reference was the symbolism of the accessory within queer culture, gay clubs and discos. “They left the western world and now they’re everywhere… It’s a very complex hat to make.

Gucci Love Parade: accessories will be everywhere in spring 2022

While most of the evening dresses and costumes in the collection will be shown widely on the red carpet for future awards shows, movie premieres, and big celebrity appearances, Gucci’s new accessories are sure to be a hit among us. , the regulars. The very first black studded eyelet handbag and crystal-embellished sunglasses are likely to honor the street style crowd in fashion month, while Gucci’s embellished dad caps and chunky wrap-around frames could easily be worn. blend in with LA’s hippest residents. And if you’re amused by Michele’s oft-referenced topic of erotica, then maybe you’re daring enough to wear a pair of latex gloves, a sex toy-inspired necklace, or a star-shaped bake. next spring.
