“I knew I had to lose weight to feel better about myself and feel better about my clothes and just to have a little more confidence in myself. I started my journey and at first I was very skeptical about whether it would work for me or not, but I decided to give it a try.

“Week after week I kept going, tried and stuck to the plan, and then I became a big fan of Slimming World because it worked well for me. Eventually I lost 5st 3lbs. It’s changed a lot of things, and I’ve got a much healthier approach to life. I now exercise regularly which I really enjoy and I feel better when I’ve done it, and it is a situation in which I have never seen myself.

“I like the fact that I have a better choice of clothes and feel better in my clothes, but I can do more. I can play with my grandchildren and sit on the floor with them. I can enjoying gardening and not getting exhausted after an hour of exercise.

“I attribute this to the support I received as a group and our family dynamic – we encouraged each other to stay on track as we all slipped up from time to time but got back on our feet and between the three of us, and the three of us receiving support within the band, it really became the important part of our support system, and between us, we achieved great things.

“Between us, we’ve lost a whole person!”

Amanda continued, “I think it improves your self-esteem, your confidence around people when you’re on the go, and your mental well-being as well as your physical health. It makes a big, big difference.”

Amanda’s husband Ian told Scunthorpe Live: “What was it, I’ve always been an active person and often got out of breath. Julia had joined Slimming World some time before and she told me about it and I said, “Oh, I’ll give it a try”, so I went and it worked.

“Like everything, it takes time, but I used to be breathless and I don’t get breathless at all now. I feel a lot younger, not just in my head but in my body. I feel feel absolutely fantastic. I persuaded Amanda to come to Slimming World and so the three of us went, and we’ve never looked back.

“We are three very healthy people thanks to Slimming World, it’s as simple as that.”

Julia added: “It’s just a lifestyle change, really. Even during the lockdown, Slimming World continued online via Zoom and we stayed in touch, and that really helped me. You feel so more in control, whereas before I didn’t feel in control at all.

“I had a stroke and am diabetic but since being on the Slimming World diet I have reduced my diabetes meds by two doses.

“It made me much healthier. We did wonders.”
