Folk and merchant cafe and lifestyle retail space to open in Doubleview
A young couple are behind the latest café addition to Perth’s northern suburbs, blending earthy vibes with coastal flair.
A cafe and lifestyle retail space blended into one, Folk and Merchant by local husband and wife Gary and Laura Fletcher will open in Doubleview this month.
With Ms. Fletcher designer and Mr. Fletcher working in hospitality and business all over the world, Folk and Merchant has become a way for them to pursue their passions and share their loves with the local community.
The duo said renovations are currently underway to convert the space that used to be the M. Herberts Café into a place for the community to “connect, create and relax.”
Ms Fletcher said she was drawn to the place because Mr Herberts had been a meeting place for her and other mothers to collaborate on their small business ideas.
“When the space became available, I felt there was a void in the community, and Gary and I saw an opportunity to not only begin the journey towards our dream, but also to create a community driven venue that highlighted just how progressive Perth’s coffee scene has been. become, ”she said.
“With the challenges COVID has created for traditional brick-and-mortar-style shopping, the emergence of hybrid-style spaces specializing in food and beverage while providing the tactile experience of a traditional boutique is a trend in the residential sector. communities and we figured this was something that would work well in Doubleview.
Ms Fletcher said the menu was “still a work in progress” but would include locally sourced, seasonal foods “with a focus on fresh, vibrant, healthy and nutritional items, and of course treats for those indulgent days.” .
“We also spent weeks tasting Perth’s best roasters,” she said.
“We will be offering unique origins in small, rotating batches, showcasing different roasters that we love and experimenting with different brewing techniques.
“Our drink menu will also include freshly made smoothies, delicious milkshakes, cold coffee, iced teas and fresh juices.
“Healthy and delicious children’s food is also at the top of our list. “
The retail space will be stocked with housewares, gifts and lifestyle products from Australian craft brands, as well as Ms. Fletcher’s organic children’s clothing brand, Lucie June.
Ms Fletcher said the name Folk and Merchant represented what they “were going to be”.
“Our community, ‘folk’, will be the heart of the space,” she said.
“Every element we select and design is in mind with the locals. It will be a constantly evolving space.
“We have two young children as well as two small dogs, so our intention is to create a relaxed and family atmosphere where everyone feels at home, even the furry babies.
“Our long-term dream is to build a creative center offering workshops, yoga classes and buskers will join us on weekends, playing acoustic music live in the courtyard.”
Folk and Merchant will open in two phases. The first phase in mid-September will see the cafe and retail space come to life, while the second phase will follow in a few months with a patio, outdoor seating area and a natural play area for the kids.
It will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day.
