If you could go on vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go? If you move, would you come back to Cornwall? Let us know
While it’s surprising to think that a Hollywood star who has worked around the world would swap the glitz and glamor of an exclusive trip for a trip to a quaint Cornish cottage, it just might be not too much of a stretch considering Rosie’s western roots.
Born in Plymouth at Freedom Fields Hospital to local couple Fiona and Charles, who worked in a jewelry store and a real estate agency, respectively, Rosie grew up on a farm near Tavistock.
While she has always loved fashion and aspired to make a name for herself, it was during an internship in London that really threw Rosie into the modeling industry and sparked her desire for a career in modeling.
“I got an internship in a modeling agency, then I spent the week making coffee and taking the phone, smoking cigarettes and drinking wine at 11am, it was very Ab Fab”, she once said in an interview with an American chat host. David Letterman, after describing the house she grew up in in Devon as “quite beautiful, in the middle of nowhere”.
After the internship, Rosie left school right after her GCSEs and moved to London to gain more experience, before moving across the world to New York when she was just 18 years old.
She is now known worldwide and is estimated to be worth around $ 30million / £ 22million, with her partner Jason Statham being worth $ 90million / £ 66million.
The couple have been in a relationship since 2010 and have a four-year-old son. It is not yet known when their second baby is due.
Rose’s education in the Westcountry
On her YouTube channel, which has more than 200,000 subscribers, Rosie regularly posts videos about her modeling profession and offers viewers a glimpse into her daily beauty routine.
In a video explaining how she got started in the modeling industry, Rosie said: “I grew up on a farm in Devon. Devon, for those of you who don’t know, is in the southwest of England – this is the real countryside and I grew up in a small hamlet about ten minutes from the local town [Tavistock] where I went to school. “
As a teenager, Rosie was a “good student” in school and a “fun friend,” she says, and enjoyed spending all her pocket money on clothes and makeup.
“I remember my mom telling me, when I was probably 14 or 15, ‘The only thing that interests you, Rosie, is the hair, the clothes, the makeup and the boys.'” she revealed in a video on her YouTube channel. “And I remember thinking, ‘Well, what else am I supposed to worry about?’ I am 15 years old!”
Her childhood and adolescence were safe and calm, she told David Letterman when she appeared on his popular talk show in America in 2011.
“Looking back, I would have liked to appreciate it more,” she said. “I was dying to go out in town, [my upbringing] was sheltered, calm and charming. “
Rosie, her brother Toby, her sister Florence and her parents Fiona and Charles lived on an idyllic farm near Tavistock “in the middle of nowhere” when Rosie was growing up and she often says her upbringing in the country was “really beautiful”.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2018, Rosie recalled enjoying family trips to Cornwall.
“We didn’t have a lot of money and everything was very basic,” she said. “We had a family vacation in Cornwall, camping.”
It was perhaps her childhood memories that inspired her to return on vacation to Cornwall.
