Karnataka preparing to waive GST and levies on building materials, says CM
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said he is ready to waive GST and levies on steel, cement and other building materials if the Center bears 25% of the cost of acquiring the land for the projects. CM Bommai was speaking at the ceremony to lay the foundations of the 925 kilometers of the national road. He said that if the Center accepted his proposal, a memorandum of understanding would be signed in this regard. He also said that the state government is ready to offer similar concessions in the implementation of the Satellite Town Ring Road project in Bengaluru and other towns like Kalaburagi and Belagavi.
At the ceremony, the Union Minister for Land Transport and National Roads, Nitin Gadkari, was also present. Praising Gadkari, the CM of Karnataka said the minister had made an immense contribution to the development of the northern part of the state. The completion of the Hospet-Hubballi four-lane highway and the Chitradurga-Hubballi highway has brought great relief from troubles and accidents for the people of this region, the CM added.
The Chief Minister has requested Gadkari to undertake works on the Kaiga-Ilkal road as part of the Naragund-Bilagi-Gajendragad-Kushtagi-Sindhanur National Highway-115.
Yesterday, Gadkari laid the first stones of five national road projects spread over 238 km and worth ₹3,972 Cr in the Belagavi of Karnataka. The project is supposed to improve interstate road connectivity from Karnataka to Maharashtra and Goa.
“These NHS will reduce congestion and fuel consumption, speed up travel and improve port connectivity in the region,” Gadkari said.
