The Masked Singer: Kyle Sandilands and Macy Gray revealed as singing celebrities
Warning: Spoilers below.
The masked singer served two of the biggest shocks of the season – including one that left Judge Jackie O in shock.
Last night, the reality show delivered two celebrity “unmasks” in one exceptional episode.
The runner-up, world superstar Macy Gray, has delivered some serious celebrity credentials in a season that has so far been a bit of a hit and miss.
But the lead singer of I Try, who was revealed as the celebrity behind Atlantis, was eclipsed by a guest singer who only appeared for one night.
In an awkward cross-promotion on the network, viewers were introduced to Rubble, a character from Paw Patrol.
Rubble sang a mostly fair version of Drops of Jupiter by Train, leaving the judges guessing it was anyone from Russell Crowe, Chris Hemsworth or even Guy Pearce.
When Sandilands finally took off his mask, Jackie – his 20-plus-year-old co-host – was mortified.
“It’s the worst you can get,” she said.
“I never live it down … it’s so embarrassing.”
Jackie O explained that she spoke daily about The Masked Singer to Sandilands while working for KIIS FM, but that he “never even said it once”.
“All the while you knew you were going to participate! she said.
To add even more insult to the injury, Sandilands revealed that one of the clues – images of Rubble looking at a collection of lipsticks – was a reference to KIIS FM’s lip logo.
This news prompted Jackie O to drop her face on the desk, joking that she would be “fired” the next day.
It was a bad night for the judges, neither of them being able to guess Gray’s voice either, although it was distinctly recognizable.
To make matters worse, comedian Urzila Carlson guessed Gray correctly from the start, but changed her last call to Delta Goodrem.
Even Noni Hazelhurst has been touted as the potential celebrity behind Atlantis – something that would no doubt have left Gray feeling particularly aggrieved.
