TV preview: Kaye Adams and Nadia Sawalha join the Celebrity Circle
Partly social experience and gripping reality entertainment, you could say that Channel 4’s show The Circle was ahead of its time – confining contestants to their apartments as life unfolded across social media.
After two series of the hit show, The Circle is set to return to our screens once again as part of a six-part special.
This time around, however, there is a celebrity twist.
Presented by Emma Willis, host of The Voice and Big Brother, the Celebrity Circle will see 12 of the country’s most beloved stars settle into the now famous apartment building to benefit Stand-Up To Cancer.
As they fight to be crowned Most Popular Player (while also raising money for charity), contestants will be split into two camps – those who stay true to their identities and those who use a catfish profile (and many trick) to play entirely different celebrity.
Touring continuously over the course of a single week, the special will also see a number of celebrities settle in together with the goal of playing a character, all before tagging their fellow competitors and ultimately ejecting the less popular one from the Circle. .
Before the Celebrity Circle hits our screens, we take a look at the all-star lineup taking part in this year’s charity special.
Best known for her appearance in the first series of Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK, Baga Chips, 31, aims to make other celebrities believe she is Kim Woodburn’s queen.
“I’m ahead of the game because we’re very, very good friends, and I called him. I don’t have to eat creepy critters or I don’t have to do strenuous workouts. So I was like, basically, I’ll be sitting on my ass trying to fish people out. I will flirt with the guys and I will be a mother to the girls! ”
Denise van Outen
Stage and screen star Denise Van Outen, 46, avoids a catfish profile to enter The Celebrity Circle like herself.
“I just can’t wait to have a great week on my own. It’s gonna be like a vacation for me! I’m not doing it to prove anything, I just think it’s really fun.”
Rickie Haywood-Williams and Melvin Odoom
Radio DJs Rickie Haywood-Williams, 40, and Melvin Odoom, 40, are probably best known for their stints as presenters for KISS FM. Now the duo are teaming up again, this time in an effort to convince their colleague that he is an international musician, Will.I.Am.
“When I was growing up I listened to the Black Eyed Peas. I’m talking about the real deal, hip hop, the Black Eyed Peas. People just think he’s a musician, or people just think he’s like that guy on The Voix. There are things people don’t know about him. “said Odoom.
“I think that makes it even more fun and less intimidating that we’re going to be doing it together… you might see some arguments.” You never know, we might just ignore each other for half an episode. “said Haywood-Williams.
Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby, 30, embraces the concept of cat fishing, entering The Celebrity Circle like none other than Mysterious Girl hitmaker Peter Andre.
“I’ve met Peter Andre a few times. I mean we’re not friends, but who doesn’t love Peter Andre? He won the title of Dad of the Year about 75 years in a row. How can you dislike dad of the year? ”
Former Blue Boyband member Duncan James, 42, is avoiding cat fishing in favor of playing himself. However, this does not prevent the singer from thinking about other possibilities.
“It’s just something to escape the lockdown. I’ve been with my mom the whole time … If I had to come in as anyone, I would come in as Lee because literally I know him. so well. I “I’ve known him for 20 years, and he’s like my cheeky, straighter version.”
Pete Wicks and Sam Thompson
Outcast best friends Pete Wicks, star of The Only Way Is Essex, 32, and Sam Thompson, of Made in Chelsea, 27, team up with other catfish contenders to think they’re the countdown mathematician Rachel Riley.
“I’ll be honest with you. The reason I did this is because Pete Wicks will be contractually obligated to live with me for six days! What a brilliant opportunity.” Thompson said.
“We tried to think of someone who is as different as you could get from us. I mean, number one, she’s smart, we’re not. She’s a woman, we’re not. She just seems like a really nice person, so it’s going to be pretty hard for me to try and pretend I’m a nice person, ”Wicks says.
British rapper Lady Leshurr, 32, is set to go undercover as rapper Big Narstie. Despite their size difference, Leshurr believes she has what it takes to cheat on her comrades.
“Anyone who knows me on Instagram or Snapchat will know that I have this energy 24/7. I will be incorporating the energy of Big Narstie to align with mine because we are very similar. clothes to keep me in my character because it’s kind of like a method. ”
Kaye Adams and Nadia Sawalha
Loose Women presenters Kaye Adams, 58, and Nadia Sawalha, 56, serve a double serving of entertainment, as they enter Celebrity Circle under the guise of The Only Way Is Essex icon Gemma Collins.
“The thing about playing GC is that she’s a very complex character. I think even people who hate her love her. Even when she behaves outrageously, it’s funny. getting away with the diva-esque character, I’ll never know. It’s gonna be a challenge! “Sawalha said.
“For me, it was a great way to lock myself in a small space with Nadia and have her cook for me for a week, so as far as I’m concerned I have a private chef,” Adams says.
YouTube star and social media influencer Saffron Baker, 20, is one of three candidates to join The Celebrity Circle as such. Excited by this prospect, she is already speculating on the identity of her fellow competitors.
“There aren’t a lot of people that I would be struck by the limelight, other than probably Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. I’ve met them before, and I think I played pretty cool. other person is Dwayne Johnson, but I highly doubt he’s in an apartment next door! ”
The Celebrity Circle for Stand Up To Cancer kicks off Tuesday, Channel 4, 9:15 p.m.
